We were introduced to Isabella this morning, a guide for Paris who talked 90 mph...full of information about Paris!
Isabella told us a lot about the sites we were seeing as we drove around Paris. Our first stop was Jardin de Luxemborg ...where we saw a replica of the Statue of Liberty. This day in Paris was July 4th...so when some of our delegates saw the statue and as they walked up to it, they started to sing 'America'... it was pretty cool! A lot of us had our photos made with Lady Liberty who was given to the city in 1885.
From the park, Isabella took us to an area of Paris where the locals shop. There were many boutiques...none of them inexpensive! We had a little time to shop around, both in shops, and at a crafters faire.
Lunch was the traditional fish and chips...with the addition of a vegetable bar! You would have thought it was Christmas with the excitement of the vegetables!Apparently, our guide told us that London is famous for these Metro signs....I don't have a clue what this is...but it was across the street from the Louve...interesting!
From lunch, we walked to the Louve...ah, the Louve! I didn't particularly like the way the Louve was set up for us to explore. The delegation was divided into 4 groups - each with a leader - and a guidebook and questions to talk/answer about 6 different pieces. The idea was great, but it was too hot and too crowded to do it this way. All in all, we saw the Winged Victory of Samotrace, the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, a painting called The Coronation of Josephine, a painting called Liberty Leading the Way to Victory, and an exploration of the Apollo Room. This is NOT the Arc de Triomphe...but another arch in Paris, which happens to be in line with the Arc de Triomphe...actually there are 3 arches that line up!My granddaughter's name! Thalia...
The Louve is such an expansive place...with 15,000 paintings...and no telling how many statues. You could spend a week in there and never see it all...it's amazing. I wish the delegates had had more time on their own to explore their own interests.
Next stop: Notre Dame. The line was so long to get in, but it went fast. Notre Dame is beautiful...and just to be inside is breathtaking to me. Notre Dame...it's one of those places you hear about and hear about...and then, here you are!Notre Dame, which means 'Our Lady', has 13 statues around it... 12 are for the 12 apostles, and the 13th one is for the architect!
